Chef keeps cooking despite grenade attack: A chef has been commended by the outgoing top Commander in Helmand for keeping his troops fed, even after his kitchen took a direct hit from a grenade. Lance Corporal Mark Wrangham (24), from Darlington, has been awarded the Commander’s Coin by Brigadier Bob Bruce, the Commander of Task Force Helmand for Herrick 17. LCpl Wrangham (pictured) was the only chef cooking for 60 soldiers in the remote check point of Pan Kalay in central Helmand when his kitchen was damaged by a grenade. “It was 3.30 in the afternoon and I was doing my preparation for the evening meal when I was called outside. I heard a big bang and I thought it was my fault - I thought I had left the gas on. Then I realised it had been a grenade. There was a hole in the centre of the roof,” said LCpl Wrangham.
